An applicant can qualify for a New Hampshire license with a bachelor’s or associate degree in criminal justice, as well as two years of experience being a licensed investigator. The criminal justice degree covers corrections, investigations, the court system, criminal behavior and law enforcement.

A private investigator can get licensure in the state without a degree, but with the right experience. He can satisfy the condition with a four-year experience being a firefighter who is certified by International Association of Arson Investigators. A police officer having four years of full-time experience will also obtain a license as a private investigator.
