If you are accepted for this job, attend the Correctional Officer Academy to complete a course and an extra, OJT program. You should not be younger than 20 years old. Although an officer does not need to have professional experience, you should work as a trainee for six months except when you have previous experience in the military, corrections or law enforcement. However, experience in corrections and law enforcement is preferable. You should prove competency using firearms and the capability of passing a weapons qualification exam on a yearly basis.
